Automated Micro-needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT),works in theory, much the same way as fraxyl lasering. Areas of treatment include: fine lines, acne scars, traumatic scars, stretch marks, large pores, hyper and hypo pigmentation. This procedure may be performed anywhere on the body.
How does it work?
Like fraxyl lasering, the Micropen's sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles creates channels or controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin's repair process results in a thickening of the derm. Wrinkles appear softer, scars, less obvious, pores tighter. These micro-channels fasciltate the absorption of topical gels, creams, and serums used during the treatment, enhancing their effects on the deeper layers of tissue. It's advantages over fraxyl are that topicals applied to the skin during the procedure enhance treatment, the chance of thermal burn is eliminated, and the recovery and downtime is minimal when compared to fraxyl.
Is it painful?
The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others. The speed of the reciprocating needle tip makes the treatment comfortable. Sometimes, depending on the depth of the needling and the condition being treated, topical numbing agents may be used.
What is the down time?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a pinkness to the skin, similar to a sunburn. The total healing time depends on the condition being treated and the depth or the procedure. On average, clients are pink for 2-4 days. Some clients heal completely in 24 hours. Adhering strictly to post care instructions will speed up the healing process.
When will I see results?
There is an immediate glow to the skin. Visible changes will develop over the course of several weeks. Results continue to improve for up to 6 months as collagen production continues.
How many treatments will I need?
Some require a single treatment, once a year to achieve optimal results. Most clients will need a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 2-8 weeks apart. Depending on severity of condition, others may require 6-8 treatments to achieve their desired result.
